In Thailand, "Coup" must mean "Election"

Checked in with Tom Van Blarcom, head of our Worldcom Group partner office in Bangkok yesterday regarding the coup. Here's some perspective via email from someone with feet on the street:

Fun, fun, fun in the City of Angels (Bangkok's name in Thai - not LA).

We're all fine - this is my 3rd coup in 22 years , it's getting easy.

These things are very peaceful - today has been declared an official holiday here, but generally everyone is going about their business normally. Most of us are here in the office. Rumors are still rampant (interestingly we knew four hours ahead of time - Bangkok is not a great place for secrets), but we are assuming that business will be back to normal by tomorrow.

Our concern is how it might play out economically - we shall see.

Fun fun, fun.

I find it interesting that violent riots sometimes occur in the streets of U.S. cities after sporting events and Bangkok peacefully celebrates a coup ...
