Inter-Activate Your Content

All too often, especially in PR, authors publish articles filled with enough keywords to make any search engine salivate, but end the process by uploading the article to their Web site and walk away. However, posting the article to your site is just the beginning of what can ultimately drive more search engine success and increase your online visibility.

Let’s say my good friend Matt writes a one-page article about Word-of-Mouth Marketing and posts it on his Web site, which happens to be about all about Marketing and other relative topics. Matt’s site gets a decent amount of traffic, so the article is read from time to time. But Matt decides he wants to share his article with the masses, in hopes that it will be read by more Word-of-Mouth enthusiasts and will drive them back to his site. So, Matt does something all of us authors should; he syndicates his content.

Syndicating your online content can be a fantastic way to increase your online presence, regardless of where your site currently ranks in the natural listings. If Matt’s marketing Web site doesn’t rank very high in the search engines, but his article is picked up by five sites that do, Matt indirectly receives five first page listings in the natural results from links to his site, which he cleverly incorporated into his article.

Sites such as Ezine Articles or Free Sticky allow authors to post their content for others to share and even pull into their own site. We use the term “Push/Pull” in marketing quite a bit, and this is a great example why. As with anything, there are a few caveats with content syndication. When looking into any syndication site, be sure to read the fine print.
